Burr Oak Schools Select Butts To Be Next Superintendent

(BURR OAK) – Burr Oak Schools has found their next Superintendent in Dr. Kelvin Butts.

Monday night the Burr Oak School Board held second round interviews for the position. They were scheduled to interview Dr. John Strycker, Vice President of Program Development for Fueling Brains in Texas; Mr. Howard Edwards, Director of School Learning for the South Bend Community Schools; and Butts, Superintendent of Benton Harbor Area Schools.

Just before the interviews were to start, the School Board announced the Strycker had withdrawn his name from consideration, leaving just Edwards and Butts.

Both of the remaining candidates were asked several questions during their one hour interviews. One of the questions was to explain their 3 to 5 year plan for Burr Oak Schools if they were hired as Superintendent. Edwards answered first. ...... {LISTEN}.

Edwards would also meet with parents and Interim Superintendent Terry Conklin to help form a better plan on how to move forward.

Following the interviews, the Board of Education talked about both candidates before agreeing to enter into contract negotiations with Butts. It’s hoped to have him officially start his new duties on July 1.
