Saturday, February 9, 2019

ANGOLA – Passersby rescued two occupants of a burning house west of Angola Friday afternoon.

It happened at 4785 West U-S 20 just before 5 p-m.

Sarah Heath and Jarell Brewer fled to the roof top of the two story structure and made a jump for it. They were caught by the passersby who had stopped to assist. They apparently suffered minor injuries.

Angola firefighters attacked the fire from inside but were driven out by intense heat from the wind driven fire.

With assistance from Salem, Steuben Township, Fremont, Orland, Hamilton, Ashley-Hudson, Auburn and Stroh firefighters they had the fire under control in about one hour.

The home was owned by Beverly Tabernero and Elizabeth Love. A damage estimate was unavailable.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
