Sturgis BOE Approves Custodial Services Recommendation

(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Board of Education unanimously approved a recommendation for a new custodial services company Monday night.

During last week’s study session, the Board of Education heard a presentation on ABM Building Maintenance and Facility Services. Sturgis Schools Finance Director Ray Sterling shared that requests for proposals were sent out on February 10. Twelve bids were received and then pared down to six, and those companies then came to visit Sturgis Schools.

Sterling says after asking for Board input, the overwhelming favorite was ABM. He shares what ABM’s staffing levels would be under the three year contract them. ...... {LISTEN}.

ABM’s bid also included purchasing all consumables and chemical supplies, at a value of $90,000. Currently Sturgis Schools purchases those items. There would also be new equipment throughout the District at a value of $160,000, purchased by ABM.

Sterling says ABM also has a transition plan that would be done in phases. ...... {LISTEN}.

The Go Live portion would start on July 1.

Sterling says any current employees of the current custodial company would be allowed to apply for jobs with ABM.
