(COLDWATER) – Criminal sexual conduct charges have been brought against a Coldwater man.
Branch County District Court officials say that 36 year old David Alvarez Jr. is charged with two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct, following an alleged incident with a 13 year old girl.
The girl told police investigators that she was staying at Alvarez’s
apartment when the incidents happened on April 5. She told officers that she believed Alvarez to be a friend because for two and a half years he had lived with her and her mother.
Police say during the course of their investigation, they discovered that Alvarez was on probation from Calhoun County on a charge of criminal sexual conduct.
Alvarez plead not guilty during his arraignment. He is being held in the Branch County Jail on a $75,000 bond. If he is able to post bond, Alvarez is ordered to not have any contact with the victim and no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.
Alvarez is scheduled to have a probable cause hearing on April 17 and a preliminary examination on April 23.
