(LAGRANGE) – NIPSCO will be doing work on a natural gas steel pipeline starting next week.
Bill Morr, Director of LaGrange County Emergency Management says beginning Monday, July 17, NIPSCO along with contracted crews from Infrasource, Mulcare and other companies, will be inspecting and cleaning an existing 12 inch natural gas steel pipeline. It’s located at a gas regulator station at the intersection of U.S. 20 and North County Road 850 West.
NIPSCO performs these inspections periodically to test the integrity of the natural gas lines and to make sure the area is safe. This is an industry standard done to ensure NIPSCO can continue to provide safe and efficient natural gas service to their customers.
Morr says residents and businesses in a one-mile radius area may observe a distinguishable, audible noise, a visible 30 foot flare stack, and may experience natural gas odors in the air as a result of this routine procedure.
The project is scheduled to last four to five weeks, weather permitting.
Customers are not expected to experience any interruptions to their existing natural gas service.
NIPSCO would like to thank the community for their patience as this work is being performed to ensure continuous pipeline safety and integrity.
