Monday, June 24, 2019

SOUTH BEND – A survey team from the National Weather Service confirmed Sunday evening’s tornado on the south end of South Bend.

The team labeled the twister at EF-2 or strong tornado with winds estimated 115 and 125 miles per hour.

Meteorologists say a shower that began in northwest Marshall County encountered the outflow from an earlier storm that provided the lift to form the brief tornado.

It had a lifespan of ten minutes, covering a path two miles long, from just south of US 20 to near the intersection of Ironwood Drive and Inwood Road.

Growing Kids Learning Center sustained heavy damage but no one was in the building at the time.

No injuries were reported from the storm.
