(COLON) – Colon Community Schools is looking for a new Superintendent.

Rachel Kowalski has resigned as the Colon Superintendent, and has been hired as the new Superintendent of Saline Area Schools.

In a post on the Saline Schools website, it was announced that the Saline Schools Board of Education hired Kowalski, who will start her new duties with the district on July 1.

Kowalski was hired as the Colon Superintendent in 2022. Prior to that, she was the Director of Curriculum in Clintondale; District Administrator in Orange County, Florida and the K-12 Curriculum Director in Osceola County, Florida.

The Colon Schools are asking for public input in their search for a new superintendent. The District has set up a survey to get information and feedback on the qualities, priorities and experience that the community seeks in its new Superintendent.

The Colon School Board says they are committed to having a transparent and inclusive process to find their next Superintendent, and will be providing community updates on the search, as the circumstances warrant.

There will be a special Colon Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, June 4 at 6 PM. The Board hopes to be able to field input at that time too.

The proposed timeline has Colon Schools accepting applications until June 11, when they hold a special meeting to do applicant reviews. First round interviews would be on June 18 with final round interviews on June 25 and approving the contract for a new Superintendent on July2.

The start date for the new Superintendent would be July 7.
