(ELKHART) - A man has turned himself into authorities in connection with a deadly hit and run that happened over the summer.
The Elkhart Police Department says 44 year old Eric Beal of South Bend turned himself in Saturday. He was officially charged on Tuesday with felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident after operating while intoxicated causing death and leaving the scene of an accident after operating while intoxicated causing catastrophic injury.
The crash happened July 10 near the intersection of County Road 6 West and John Weaver Parkway. Beal struck a motorcycle driven by 31 year old Caleb Watson.
Watson died after being taken to the hospital. His passenger, a 25 year old woman, suffered serious but non life threatening injuries.
Beal is being held in the Elkhart County Jail with bond set at $1 million.
