(STURGIS) - Staffing continues to be a problem even for the City of Sturgis.
Wednesday night Interim Sturgis City Manager Doug Terry shared with the City Commission that the City has been having issues finding people to come to work for them. One area that he sees a need for employees is the ambulance service, based on the number of runs they have made.
Terry says last year, Sturgis Ambulance made 188 runs. So far in 2026, they have made 218 runs. He says that lends him to believe the City needs to keep their options open. Terry says he's not convinced on what the requirements will be for an ambulance in Sturgis in the near future.
Terry says the public safety aspect of what the City does is paramount, saying it's number one for the citizens. He says there are other areas of the City where they hear complaints from the citizens about why Sturgis isn't doing something. Terry says the City is trying their best to address those needs. Terry says the City will continue to work hard to meet the needs of the citizens and keep making improvements.
