(MERRILLVILLE) - NIPSCO says as of 5 PM Tuesday, they have restored power to 99% of their customers in Northern Indiana.

In a media release, NIPSCO officials says remaining outages may include a limited number of customers with damage to privately owned equipment, as well as routine outages unrelated to the storm.

The company is working directly with those customers to support safe reconnection.

NIPSCO President and Chief Financial Officer Vince Parisi says the damage from the August 11 storms was the worst they have seen and they are grateful for the patience of their customers. Parisi also thanks the thousands of people working around the clock and with restoration complete, NIPSCO is now focused on supporting the communities still recovering.

The storm knocked out power to approximately 375,000 NIPSCO customers which represents roughly 80% of their electric customers. Crews restored power to nearly all homes and businesses so they could safely resume service along with rebuilding significant portions of the electric system in less than two weeks.
