(STURGIS) - There have been several questions since Sturgis Hospital closed June 19.
While it doesn't bear directly on the Hospital's closure, there have been many questions asked about how the closing may affect Sturgis Ambulance.
The service, which is operated by the City, will remain open. However, it will probably be even more busy having to transport individuals to hospitals in other cities.
Wednesday evening, Sturgis Interim City Manager Doug Terry shared with the City Commission his thoughts on how the Ambulance Service should move forward.
Terry says both the Sturgis Police and Fire Departments are tapped out. He said he talked to Director of Public Safety Ryan Banaszak and told him when he sees talent to grab on to it, knowing they will have some retirements coming up. Terry says he is concerned with the Hospital closed the City is going to be tied up quite a bit with the ambulance. (LISTEN ABOVE)
Terry says he wants to assure Sturgis residents that their safety will always be the City's first priority.
One of the problems in hiring ambulance staff is due to a shortage of qualified people, which Terry says is a problem for all businesses. Terry says Sturgis is doing everything they can to attract employees, to make sure there is no shortage of qualified staff going forward.
