(CENTREVILLE) - Sentence will be handed out later this month to a Vicksburg man who struck and killed an Amish child one year ago.

St. Joseph County Circuit Court officials say 30 year old Logan Thomas is scheduled to be sentenced December 19 for his role in the death of 10 year old Anthony Miller. Logan entered into a plea agreement to a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death.

On December 2, 2024 the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office was called to the area of Balk Road and Banker Street Road just after 8 AM on a report of a vehicle striking several children. Deputies arrived and determined that Thomas had been traveling west on Banker Street Road on his way to work and failed to see the Amish children riding their bikes to school and struck them.

First responders performed life saving measures on Anthony, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thomas was arrested and charged at the time with a felony count of operating a motor vehicle while license denied or revoked causing death; a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle without insurance and a charge as a fourth habitual offender.

Thomas was found to be under the influence of meth at the time of the incident.
