(EAST LANSING) - Mendon scored first, added an insurance run and then held on at the end as the No. 1 and defending Division 4 State Champion Lady Hornets beat No. 2 Hillman 2-1 in their semifinal game in East Lansing. An RBI single in the first by Cienna Nightingale in the first inning gave Mendon a 1-0lead. Sabrina Monroy hit into a fielder's choice in the fourth inning that scored Nightingale for a 2-0 lead. Rowan Allen went the distance, giving up 5 hits and 1 run with 8 strikeouts. Hillman starter Gretchen Weiland also went 7 innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs with 14 strikeouts. Hillman ends their season at 33-10. Mendon improves to 31-3 and will face No. 7 Brown City in the State Finals. Brown City beat No. 8 Fowler 7-1.
