(LANSING) - Michigan State Senator Jonathan Lindsey recently introduced legislation that would eliminate the sales tax paid on utility services.
Senate Bills 986 and 987 would eliminate the sales tax on utilities like electricity and natural gas.
Lindsey, a Republican from Coldwater says people simply can't keep up with rising costs, and it's creating difficult financial decisions for families across the state. He says this is just one of the many tax reforms he is pursuing because lawmakers need to act to lower the financial burden for Michigan families.
Lindsey says taking the government out of the equation will lower bills across the board.
Lindsey says this is an equitable reform that benefits every single ratepayer in Michigan. He says these bills will provide families with meaningful tax relief so they can prioritize what matters most to them and their children.
