(STURGIS) - The Sturgis Schools Board of Education heard a proposed budget presentation Monday night, but it wasn't their budget.
The St. Joseph County ISD presented their proposed budget for the 2026-2027 school year. Kelli Dechnik, the ISD Assistant Superintendent of Finance, Operations and Human Resources started by giving information on the ISD's budget from the 2024-2025 school year. She says the ISD had revenues over expenditures of $582,000 and a fund balance of $3.8 million or 34%. For the current school year, revenues are projected to be over budget by $125,000 and the fund balance will be just over $4 million or 24%.
Dechnik says in the proposed budget for the 2026-2027 school year, revenues over expenditures are anticipated to be just over $64,000 with fund balance of $4 million or approximately 25%. (LISTEN ABOVE).
The Sturgis Board of Education will vote on the proposed ISD budget during their May 18 meeting.
