(INDIANA) - A new study shows Indiana is one of the worst states in the nation when it comes to cybercrime.

The analysis, conducted by Click Insights, used 2024 data from the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center. It found Indiana logged 342 cybercrime complaints per 100,000 people last year -- the second-highest rate in the country, behind only Alaska. Those complaints added up to more than $125 million in losses for Hoosiers. On average, each victim lost about $5,287. The study also showed big regional differences: Mississippi reported the lowest cybercrime rate in the U.S.

Experts say the numbers highlight the need for stronger digital security and public awareness as online scams and attacks continue to rise.
