(INDIANA) - Amazon is making another massive move in Indiana -- announcing a $15 billion investment to build new data center campuses in the northern part of the state. The company says the project will support its expanding AI and cloud computing operations and will create 1,100 high-skill jobs, including engineers, network security specialists, and other technical roles. Amazon hasn't released specific locations yet, but says it's exploring multiple sites within NIPSCO's service territory. The new facilities would add up to 3 gigawatts of data center capacity, exceeding Amazon's projected needs and expanding its long-term footprint in Indiana. This new investment builds on last year's $11 billion data center project in New Carlisle, Amazon's first major campus in the state.

Amazon says its agreement with NIPSCO's subsidiary, GenCo, will prevent costs from being passed along to residents by allowing the company to pay for use of existing power lines and cover expenses for new infrastructure. NIPSCO officials say the arrangement could save customers about $1 billion over 15 years.

Governor Mike Braun called the project "a massive win," saying it strengthens Indiana's role in energy production and economic growth while adding more than a thousand new jobs. Amazon already operates more than two dozen fulfillment, sortation, and delivery facilities across the state, along with its data center presence in New Carlisle.
