(CENTREVILLE) - The St. Joseph County Commission voted down a request to pay for protective insurance for the Prosecutor's Office.

During last week's meeting Prosecutor Deborah J. Davis presented a request to have the County Commission pay for an insurance policy that would protect her office if charges were filed against any of the prosecutors. Davis says if allegations are made against a prosecutor it takes money to defend them. She says it also takes away from the prosecutor doing what they are supposed to do. Davis says this is similar to malpractice insurance for doctors. While they may do everything right, someone can still file a complaint.

The cost is $1400 per year and would be valid for all of the prosecutors in the office. Davis says this is something her office could pay for if the Commission should not want to.

Commissioner Luis Rosado then asked Davis what would happen if the Commission would bring charges against the Prosecutor's Office and this policy was in place. He asked if then the Commission would be paying to protect someone they have filed against. David said Yes in theory. Rosado says that doesn't make any sense. (LISTEN ABOVE).

After some more questions Rosado motioned that the Commission deny the request, which was seconded and approved unanimously.
