(LANSING) – The Michigan State Police Fifth District is asking for the public’s help.

Troopers in the Fifth District are holding a month-long food drive until November 30 to support local families and food banks across Southwest Michigan.

The most needed items are: peanut butter; canned fruits and vegetables; cereal, soup and beans; ready to eat meals such as macaroni and cheese; household and hygiene items like toilet paper, soap, detergent and deodorant.

Collection sites will be located at all Fifth District Posts; Marshall, Niles, Paw Paw, Wayland and District Headquarters. They will each partner with a local food pantry and nonprofit organization to ensure donations directly support the communities in the Fifth District.

Items can be dropped off in the post lobbies, Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 4 PM. Please do not leave any donations outside or on the steps.

To encourage participation, a friendly district-wide competition will be held among posts. The top collecting post will earn lunch provided by Captain Jeremy Carlisle and Inspector Ryan Schoonveld.
