(KENDALLVILLE) - A Kendallville man was pronounced dead at the scene of a car-train collision Saturday afternoon.

The Kendallville Police Department says they received several 911 calls just after 2 PM Saturday reporting a crash. Officers arrived at the scene and determined that an SUV was heading south on Main Street and going towards the Norfolk Southern Railway and for a yet unknown reason didn't stop.

A freight train pulling 84 cars was heading west and going through the railroad crossing and struck the driver's side of the SUV.

The driver, identified as 33 year old Brenden Fearrin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that the crossing arms were down and functioning properly at the time the collision happened. They are reviewing video footage from several different sources as they continue their investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Kendallville Fire Department, the Noble County Sheriff's Department, the Norfolk Southern Railway Police and by Parkview EMS.
