South Bend Woman Dies In Crash

(ELKHART COUNTY) – A two vehicle crash in northern Indiana claimed the life of a passenger.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred Saturday at 5:30 PM on Old U.S. 20 near River View Manor Drive. The initial report says that a vehicle was heading west on Old U.S. 20 and went off the road due to the wet pavement. The driver, a 24 year old South Bend man over-corrected to get back on the road. In doing his vehicle went in front of an east bound car that struck the first vehicle and caused it to roll over.
A passenger in the first vehicle, 26 year old Nohelis Gonzalez Umbria, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 33 year old Elkhart man, was also taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. His passenger, a 15 year old Elkhart girl, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for a deep cut on her left knee and facial injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
