(CENTREVILLE) – A preliminary hearing is set for a man charged in the deaths of two individuals in a two vehicle crash.
St. Joseph County District Court officials say a pre-examination conference was held Tuesday for 19 year old Harley Bontrager of LaGrange, Indiana. He is charged with two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death.
It’s alleged that just after 10:30 PM on June 30, Bontrager was driving a Cadillac Escalade west on Indian Prairie Road near Kalamazoo Road in White Pigeon Township. Bontrager passed a Chevy Cobalt in a no passing zone, striking the car and sending it off the road, where it hit a tree.
29 year old Rosalie Yoder and 27 year old Marcia Ann Miller, both of Shipshewana, Indiana, were passengers in the Cobalt. Yoder was pronounced dead at the scene. Miller was flown to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, and later died from her injuries.
Brontrager’s preliminary hearing is set for August 8 at 1 PM. He remains free on a $40,000 bond.
