ANGOLA -- Officials with the Steuben County Coroner's office say the body of a woman found 20 years ago has finally been identified.

On September 6, 1999 a property owner discovered the decomposing body of a woman just after at 5:30 p.m. in a field northeast of Angola. She reportedly had a bra wrapped around her neck, indicating that she had been strangled.

The late Joel Working was the Steuben County Sheriff during that time. Working said the condition of the body "made it a stretch to determine if it was a female,".

Current Steuben County Coroner Bill Harter said the body has been identified and local officials are making contact with next of kin. An informal news conference will be held on Monday to reveal the woman's identity.
