(SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP) – A disturbance ended peacefully and with the arrest of an individual.

Branch County Sheriff Fred Blankenship says just before 8 PM Tuesday, his deputies were sent to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance in the 900 block of Heights Drive in Sherwood Township. While responding to the location, Central Dispatch reported that the suspect involved in the disturbance, a 30 year old Sherwood man, had made specific threats towards law enforcement. The suspect said if police came to the residence, he would shoot them.

It was also reported to officers that the man had a firearm and was outside discharging it.

Deputies arrived at the location and confirmed that a woman and a young child were inside the house. Authorities were able to remove them from the home and secure the area. They found out that the man had left the scene on a motorcycle before deputies arrived.

A short time later, authorities were able to contact the suspect by phone. Through calm communication and negotiations, deputies were able to convince the man to return to the residence and surrender peacefully. The man came back and was taken into custody.

Deputies searched the house, locating and securing several firearms.

The suspect is being held in the Branch County Jail.

Assisting at the scene were the Colon and Union City Police Departments and the Michigan State Police.
