(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal hit and run accident.

Sheriff Richard Behnke says his department was called to U.S. 12, just west of Mason Street in Porter Township, following a 911 call, at 6:27 AM Monday. The caller reported seeing a body on the side of the roadway, and believed they had been hit by a car.

When first responders arrived, they found a man dead on the side of the roadway in some grass. The name of the victim has not been released, pending the notification of family members.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, the Porter Township Fire Department and the SEPSA Ambulance Service.
