City Commission Gets Update On West Congress Street

(STURGIS) – The Sturgis City Commission received an update on the West Congress Street project Wednesday night.

Commissioner Brandon Kinsey asked what the latest was on the project, which goes from South Clay Street to Prairie Street, and started earlier this summer. Mayor Jeff Mullins asked if the railroad that crosses the street has been hold up, to which City Engineer Barry Cox gave this reply. ...... {LISTEN}.

Cox says both sides are working through these issues, but it’s going to take a little longer to get the work finished. ...... {LISTEN}.

City Manager Andrew Kuk says there are provisions in the contract that address matters such as this. He says they are discussing those provisions with the contractor.

Commissioner Marvin Smith also asked Cox about the Orange Street project. Cox says it going well. They hope to have the base pavement down next week and then do some structure adjustments. Then it will be topped and more structure adjustments will happen before it’s open.

He says it’s hoped to be done by Labor Day or soon after.
