(LANSING) – Counties around Southern Michigan saw their unemployment rates go up from June to July.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget is reporting that St. Joseph County had the largest unemployment rate increase, going from 4.7% to 5.4%.
Branch County’s unemployment rate went up from 4.3% to 4.5%. Cass County also increased from 4.9% to 5.1%, and Hillsdale County saw their unemployment grow from 4.7% to 4.9%.
Statewide, the unemployment rate went up from 4.1% to 4.3%.
Wayne Rourke, Labor Market Information Director of the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics says the State’s regional labor markets exhibited typical jobless rate hikes during July. He says seasonal job cuts in the State’s government sector contributed to payroll employment decreases across most metro areas.
