Arrest Made In Steuben County Hit And Run Incident

(ANGOLA) – An arrest has been made in connection with a weekend hit and run accident in Northeast Indiana, where one of the victims has died.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says 45 year old Hope Richmond of Montpelier, Ohio was identified as a suspect by a citizen who saw her vehicle, a sliver Jeep Liberty, driving south of Fremont on State Road 827 and called the Department’s Tip Line. Deputies located Richmond and the vehicle.

Richmond was taken to the Steuben County Jail and charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of a fatal accident and a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury.

Sheriff’s Deputies were called out to the 1500 block of West County Road 275 North at 8:55 PM Saturday, and found two juveniles who had been hurt.

The initial investigation determined that a vehicle was traveling east on County Road 275 North and struck the two juveniles, who were walking along the road. The vehicle involved in the incident then left the scene.

One of the victims was a 12 year old boy. He was treated a Cameron Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. The other victim, a 13 year old boy, was also taken to Cameron Memorial Hospital, and then flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne where he later died from his injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
