(LAGRANGE) – A special task force started their duties today.

LaGrange County Prosecutor Travis Glick says his office, in conjunction with local and state law enforcement agencies, is initiating the task force Project S.A.F.E. For Kids. Their primary goal is to raise awareness for school bus stop arm violations.

Glick says Project S.A.F.E. For Kids will focus enforcement beginning with the Westview School Corporation's afternoon buses. Law Enforcement officers followed buses on routes that have had previous violations. Additional officers were riding on different buses, watching for violations and if they see them, they will radio to supporting officers to initiate a traffic stop.

Project S.A.F.E. For Kids continues the efforts LaGrange County schools have made to ensure the safety of their kids, such as installing camera systems on all school buses. The camera systems have greatly improved the likelihood of successful prosecutions of violators.

Glick says Project S.A.F.E. For Kids will continue with the Lakeland School Corporation and the Prairie Heights Corporation at later dates.
