Chance Stewart Hired As SHS Football Coach

(STURGIS) – Sturgis High School has a new varsity football coach.

Sturgis Athletic Director Mark Adams announced Tuesday that Chance Stewart has been hired to be the new High School varsity football coach.

Stewart is a 2014 graduate of Sturgis High School and a 2019 graduate of Hillsdale College. He helped lead the Charges to a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) championship in 2018. He was also was voted team captain his junior and senior years, was the GMAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2018 and also an All-American in 2018.

Adams says Stewart has a vision and blueprint to build a sustained, competitive football program at SHS.

Stewart takes over for Jimmy Lamb, who resigned as head football coach when he was hired to be the new Sturgis Middle School Principal. Lamb was an assistant football coach for 10 years for Sturgis before being hired as the head coach in 2012. As head coach, Lamb's teams went 25-48, and made the MHSAA Playoffs in 2013 and again in 2015.
