Lakeland forms pre-school program
Wednesday, May 22, 2019

LAGRANGE – Lakeland School Corporation took action Monday to create its own Preschool program.

The school board approved the measure to become a legally licensed exempt preschool provider.

The district is seeking grant funding to start the program. The grant money would be used to hire the teachers for the program, which is for children ages 3 through 5.

School officials say there is enough interest to hold classes at both Lima-Brighton and Wolcott Mills schools, which are closing at the end of the school year. There is so much interest that there might be a waiting list.

The district is also working with other organizations like Parkview on a potential childcare program for younger children.

The school board also approved a building lease agreement with the Bowen Center for two rooms at Wolcott Mills for a summer program.
