Justice building should be finished by the end of May
Monday, February 11, 2019

LAGRANGE – The contractor for the new LaGrange County Justice Building believes the building will be ready by the end of May.

That’s the word given to LaGrange County Council members on Monday. Brick was delivered and they hope to have the building insulated by the end of the week.

County officials have a meeting scheduled with the contractor on Tuesday.

Sheriff Jeff Campos told council he’s still sorting through some quotes on replacing the lighting at the jail. He said the three quotes varied widely.
The plan is to replace all lighting with LED style lighting.

The sheriff said he’ll be lobbying for an increase in the daily rate paid for holding prisoners. Campos said he'll be in Indianapolis next week to testify about a proposed increase.

LaGrange County houses prisoners for the Department of Corrections and for other counties to ease overcrowding at other facilities.

Council re-appointed Charles Ashcraft and Mark Leu to the county redevelopment commission and Mike Helmkamp to the alcoholic beverage commission.
