Multi vehicle crash kills Angola woman

ANGOLA -- An Angola woman died in a crash in Steuben County at US 20 at County Road 360 West.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a personal injury crash
just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The investigation revealed that 58-yare-old Bruce A Coney from Angola, Indiana, was stopped in a 2008 Dodge truck waiting to turn South, onto County Road 360 West.   Authorities say that a Ford Explorer driven by 54-year-old Tedd J Moss from Angola was also traveling West on US 20 and attempted to stop for the Coney’s truck.

A GMC truck driven by 22-year-old Jake Fink of Lagrange struck the rear of the Ford Explorer forcing the Ford Explorer into the rear of Coney’s truck.

Authorities say the impact forced the Ford Explorer into the Eastbound lane of US 20 where it struck a semi-tractor trailer driven by 29-year-old Benjamin Matheny of Utica Ohio head on.

Moss was transported to Parkview Memorial Hospital by Samaritan helicopter for his injuries.  His passenger, 55-year-old Cindy Mirkle from Angola, was pronounced dead at the scene by Steuben County Coroner Bill Harter.  Her death was a result of blunt force trauma.

The crash remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s office.
