Snow blankets area, closes schools


LAGRANGE – Snow closed schools across much of Michiana today.

All schools in Lagange, Noble, Steuben, Elkhart, St. Joseph and Branch Counties surrendered to Friday’s winter storm.

As of late this morning the National Weather Service said the area can expect an additional 4 to 6 inches before the snow begins to taper off this evening.

Late morning snowfall totals included 4 inches in Lagrange and Angola, 5 inches at Pleasant Lake, 6 inches at Middlebury, Nappanee and South Bend.

In Michigan 5-and-a-half inches at Three Rivers.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 p-m for Elkhart, Lagrange, Steuben, Cass, St. Joseph and Branch Counties.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Noble and Kosciusko Counties until 2 p-m. They could see another 1 to 4 inches of snow.
