Toll Road crash in Steuben seriously injures two

ORLAND -- Two out-of-state men were seriously injured in a Thursday afternoon crash on the eastbound side of the Indiana Toll Road.

Indiana State Police says the crash was reported around 3:30 p.m. near the 140 mile marker west of the Angola exit.

A westbound passenger car crossed the center median and crashed head-on into a semi that was traveling eastbound.

The driver of the car, 32-year-old Jeffrey Stroike of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, was ejected from his vehicle. He was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center. Authorities say his injuries were life threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi, 44-year-old William Aponte of Bronx, New York, had to be extricated, and was also take to Parkview with serious injuries.

The crash shut down the eastbound lanes for roughly three hours. During that time heavy traffic was reported on 120 from the Fremont Outlet Malls, through Orland, and into Howe.

The accident is still under investigation.
