Sturgis BOE Gets Update On Summer Academic Camp

(STURGIS) – The 2024 Sturgis Public Schools Summer Academic Camp was a success.

During Monday’s meeting, the Sturgis Board of Education heard an update on the camp from Amanda Feyes who was the Director for the summer. She explains the criteria that was used to invite students in grades K-5. ...... {LISTEN}.

That was because students moved into the District after the initial cut off, so they asked teachers to share the names of students they thought would benefit by attending the Academic Camp.

Feyes says each grade came up with a theme for themselves and their learning was based on that theme. There were 188 children signed up for the Summer Academic Camp, and the daily average attendance was 147.

Feyes says five college students currently going into the education field also taught during the Academic Camp. Four of them are Sturgis High School graduates. She said they also had a Facebook page where they posted pictures of the children daily.
