(STURGIS) – Money coming to the City of Sturgis will be used to help educate children on the dangers of drugs.

Recently, Sturgis Director Of Public Safety Ryan Banaszak shared with the City Commission that the City receives $25,000 annually in Opioid Settlement money, allocated through the Federal government from pharmaceutical companies in response to Federal action.

After reviewing the allowable uses and the total allotment of money received, Banaszak says he and City Staff agreed to do a public education campaign to address the dangers of opioids as well as proper prescription drug use and disposal.

A Request For Proposals was advertised to do two educational videos aimed at the Middle School and High School students and several short videos of thirty second or less for elementary students. They would be done in English and Spanish.

Fourteen responses were sent in from the RFP’s. After a thorough review of all the proposals, the City is recommending choosing Hype Brand Management of Sturgis.

The Commission unanimously approved the recommendation.
