(UNDATED) – Winter weather is predicted to make its presence known on New Year's Day.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 1 PM Saturday until 7 AM Sunday for St. Joseph, Branch and Hillsdale Counties in Michigan, along with LaGrange and Elkhart Counties in Indiana.

Forecasters say a mix of rain and snow will start Saturday afternoon, turning to all snow late in the afternoon. There is also the chance of a brief period of sleet as well.

The heaviest snowfall is expected to occur Saturday with 2 to 5 inches of accumulation possible. It will be windy, with gusts between 25 and 30 miles an hour, which could create some blowing and drifting.

Roadways will be slippery so be careful if you are planning on traveling Saturday afternoon or evening.
