(STURGIS) – Wednesday evening was a special time for some Sturgis area children.

The Sturgis Noon Kiwanis Club and the Sturgis Elks Club held their annual Boots and Shoes event at the Sturges-Young Center For The Arts. The children were recommended for the event by teachers in the Sturgis Public Schools.

Sturgis Kiwanis Club President Brian Oswald says this is a great way to help out the children and to let them have an early taste of Christmas. ...... {LISTEN}.

The children get new boots or shoes, socks and gloves and hats. They also get a pizza dinner and a chance to see Santa Claus.

Oswald says this is a big undertaking and it's good that the Kiwanis and Elks can partner together to do the event. ...... {LISTEN}.

The Sturgis Key Club also helped out on the night.
