(UNION CITY) – Union City Schools has suspended their varsity football coach and named an interim coach.

In an e-mail to Swick Broadcasting, Union City Superintendent Chris Katz confirmed that head football coach Clint Colborn was suspended indefinitely on September 13. The reason for the suspension can't be discussed according to Katz because it is a personnel matter.

Junior Varsity coach Randy Widener was named the interim head coach. He was leading the team last Friday when they beat state ranked Reading 26-20 in overtime.

According to Union City Athletic Director Hayley Denney, Widener brought in a new coaching staff and met with the player's parents last week.

Colborn was in his second season as coach of the Chargers. In 2020 his team went 2-5, and the 2021 squad was 1-2 prior to the suspension.
