(LAGRANGE COUNTY) – A two vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road took the life of an Ohio man.

Indiana State Police were called at 5:10 PM Monday to a crash near the 125.7 mile marker in LaGrange County involving two semis. Investigators say a 2002 Mack truck driven by 67 year old Herbert Meade of Olmstead Township, Ohio was traveling east. He was following a 2018 Kenworth tractor-trailer, driven by 57 year old Michael Ashley of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

The eastbound lanes were restricted down to one lane because of road construction, and traffic was slowed or stopped. Ashley began slowing down, however Meade's truck was following too closely and not able to stop. Meade crashed into rear of Ashley's semi.

Ashley was able to get out of his truck and was not injured.

Meade's vehicle sustained heavy damage to the driver's side of the cab. That caused Mead's injuries and for him to be trapped in his vehicle. By the time first responders were able to get to Meade and provide medical assistance, he had succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the LaGrange County Coroner.

Assisting troopers were the Mongo and Howe Fire Departments, Parkview EMS and Parkview Samaritan Air Medical Crews. The crash is still under investigation.
