(CENTREVILLE) – St. Joseph County is going to receive close to $12 million through the American Rescue Plan.

The questions are, how can they spend it and what can it be spent on?

During Tuesday's meeting the St. Joseph County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a request from County Administrator Teresa Doehring for the County to find an organization that will help them with this allocation of Federal money.

A steering committee recommended using the services of Public Sector Consultants in Lansing. The Commission gave Doehring permission to negotiate a contract with Public Sector Consultants and to establish a business partnership with the firm. There's no word on how much this will cost the County.

To date, approximately half of the money has been given to the County. In addition, the Federal Government has not given any specific guidelines on how the money can be spent, just general thoughts and ideas.
