(STURGIS) – The Sturgis City Commission hosted a discussion on the issue of homelessness during their meeting Wednesday evening.

During a previous meeting, a citizen asked the Commission what could be done about the homeless issue in Sturgis. Commissioners put the matter as an agenda item.

Representatives from the Community Action Agency, The Salvation Army and Keystone Place all shared with the Commissioners how they work to help the homeless population, and that they work together to make sure those who are homeless know about the services available to them.

A member of the audience asked if another homeless shelter was needed since Keystone Place seemed to be full most of the time. Keystone Executive Director Kelly Tackett says another solution would be better. ...... {LISTEN}.

Members of the audience that work through their churches to reach out to the homeless asked what the City can do to help. City Manager Mike Hughes suggested that they reach out to the Housing Task Force and see if they couldn't work together to better help those who are in need.
