Coldwater Man Charged In Death Of Bicyclist

(COLDWATER) – A suspect charged in connection with a collision that killed a woman riding a bike was booked into the Branch County Jail and
then released.

Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien officially filed charges against 27 year old Jacob Ward for allegedly striking a Coldwater woman with his SUV. The woman was riding her bicycle on Old U.S. 27 near Nye Road in Kinderhook Township on April 12, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ward is charged with operating while intoxicated causing death; moving violation causing death; reckless driving causing death; use of methamphetamine and use of marijuana.

An arrest warrant was issued for Ward on May 25. Authorities say he was booked into the Branch County Jail and after posting a $100,00 bond, Ward was released.

He is scheduled for an arraignment on August 23 in Branch County District Court.
