(MENDON) – Mendon Community Schools have gone to 100 percent remote learning for the next few weeks.

Mendon Superintendent Leasa Griffith says that both Mendon Elementary School and Mendon Middle School/High School students are learning remotely. She says the decision was made after multiple students, staff and families were quarantined due to contact tracing.

Griffith says this decision was not made lightly, as they realize the impact it has on the families and students in the school district. She says the Remote Learning Fridays have helped to prepare Mendon teachers and students for this change, and they are grateful for all of the hard work put in by the families.

According to information on the Mendon Schools website, as of Tuesday there have been been 2 students in the Middle School/High School that have tested positive for COVID-19. No staff members have had positive tests. In addition, there have been 25 Elementary students and 31 Middle School/High School students who have been quarantined. This does not necessarily mean they have tested positive.

There have also been 4 Elementary school staff members and 2 staff at the Middle School/High School who have been quarantined.

For the remainder of this week, the schools will follow the Friday virtual schedule. Beginning on November 16, all new learning schedules will start and run Monday through Thursday.

CTE at Three Rivers High School and Glen Oaks Community College will continue to run as normal, and dual enrollment students will be contacted by their instructors.

The tentative date for Mendon students to return for face to face instruction is Monday, November 30.
