(WATERLOO) – A Waterloo man has been arrested for murdering his wife.

The Waterloo Marshal's Office reports that on Saturday they responded to the 500 block of Meadows Lane to perform a welfare check. When they arrived, they were met by Joseph Traster. He told officers that he and his wife Lisa Heiser had been arguing and she was dead. Police found Heiser dead inside.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department was called to the scene and started an investigation. Traster told detectives he got home from work at 6:30 AM and attempted to talk to Heiser about their relationship issues. Heiser was in bed at this time.

Traster says he laid on the bed next to his wife and at one point during their conversation, Heiser kicked him in the groin.

Traster says he strangled Heiser, then laid down and went to sleep. He was woken up in the afternoon by someone at the door. He then went to check on Heiser and she was cold to the touch. Traster says he called a family member and told them he thought he killed Heiser.

Traster is being held in a charge of murder in the DeKalb County Jail.
