By: Mike Stiles - Friday, March 13, 2020

CENTREVILLE – Glen Oaks Community College is doing their part to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

In a media release, Valorie Juergens, Glen Oaks Director of Communications, says the school is joining many two and four year higher education institutions in going from face-to-face classes to an online format. This will begin on Monday, March 16 and last through Sunday, April 12

Although there are no known suspected cases of coronavirus in the campus community, Glen Oaks convened a taskforce that is meeting regularly to monitor the situation. The taskforce is following recommendations set forth by Governor Gretchen Whitmer's office, along with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and public health agencies.

Starting March 16, courses will move from face-to-face instructions to online delivery through the CANVAS platform. Students, excluding those in CTE courses hosted by Glen Oaks, are not to report to campus.

In addition: athletic activities will be suspended; campus offices, including the fitness center and library, will be closed with limited staff reporting; students in Nursing courses will not attend clinicals at off-site locations; and students in courses with labs, instructors will be in contact with details on how those courses may run.

Students residing in the Devier Student Suites are expected to leave campus by 5 PM on Sunday, March 15. At this time, residents are expected to be able to return to campus April 11 at 12 PM. Residents will be contacted by the Student Housing Staff with further instructions.

Glen Oaks has a page on their website. It includes information on coronavirus, updates on college operations, the college's response plan and informational support for CANVAS. Please visit the site for regular updates at glen oaks dot edu.
