Clear Lake - A motorcyclist died in a Steuben County crash Sunday evening.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of County 700 North and County Road 925 East. They found 48 year old Kenneth Byrd of Fremont partly under a motorcycle.

Investigators say it appeared that Byrd was southbound on 925 East on a 2000 Honda motorcycle at a high rate of speed. For an unknown reason, Byrd traveled off the west side of the roadway. Once off the roadway, Byrd struck a wooden post, small brush, and then a large stack of firewood.

Byrd died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
