GIRARD TOWNSHIP – Charges have been filed against a homeless man following an incident Christmas Eve.

Branch County District Court officials say 60 year old Archie Wilson is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, home invasion and assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer.

Michigan State Police say Wilson had been staying at a home on Dove's Landing in Girard Township, but was told by the home owners that he needed to leave. Wilson left, but returned later and demanded to get into the house to collect his possessions.

Troopers say Wilson used a hammer to break glass to get into the house. The broken glass hit the female home owner in the face. Investigators say Wilson swung a hatchet at a man.

Wilson tried to get away from the home on a bicycle and then tried to run on foot, but was later arrested. He is being held on a $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 14.
