MACY – A hostage situation in north-central Indiana ended successfully with the suspect in custody and his 14-year-old son unharmed.

Police in Miami County were called just before 1 a-m to a residence in Macy where 36-year-old Jess Sampson had allegedly battered his girlfriend, his 17-year-old son, and a 19-year-old family friend.

Sampson released them but barricaded himself in the house with his 14-year-old son.

Indiana State Police hostage negotiators were unsuccessful in talking Sampson into surrendering or releasing the boy.

Around 4:40 a-m members of a state police SWAT team entered the home and took Sampson into custody.

The two sons were turned over to Child Services.

A search of the home allegedly turned up methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Sampson is held in the Miami County Jail as police seek charges of criminal confinement, domestic battery and drug charges.
